The future of popular RTL reality soap series Temptation Island remains in doubt after several former contestants went public with their experiences of the show, according to news website Nu.nl

RTL’s bosses Peter van der Vorst and Sven Sauvé will decide if they should bring back the show after talking to contestants who made the complaints, Nu.nl said on Thursday.

Last month two former contestants said they had been left with serious mental problems after taking part and were considering legal action against RTL and makers SimpelZodiak. One said she had tried to commit suicide twice.

In total, nine former candidates have now registered with lawyer Sébas Diekstra Nu.nl said.

Temptation Island is a tv dating show in which several couples agree to live with a group of singles of the opposite sex, to test the strength of their relationships.

The first series was broadcast in the Netherlands in 2002 and has built up a devoted following of fans.

One new show that RTL has launched for the autumn season is called The Life Trail and focuses on eight youngsters with psychological issues who go on a journey together.

Van der Vorst told Nu.nl that it is essential to make sure that the youngsters get the correct leadership. This has always had a key role in the broadcaster’s reality soaps “which is why we really want to know what went wrong [with Temptation Island],” he said.
