Vietnam's traffic accidents up in January-October

HANOI, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- A total of 9,212 traffic accidents occurred from January to October in Vietnam, killing 5,221 people and severely injuring 3,312, and slightly injuring 2,828, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Monday.

The number of traffic accidents and deaths increased by 3.1 percent and 15.4 percent respectively while the number of severe and slight injuries rose 10.4 percent and decreased by 11.7 respectively against the same period last year.

On average, in the first 10 months of this year, Vietnam saw 30 traffic accidents per day which claimed 17 lives and injured 20 people.

A total of 11,454 traffic accidents occurred in Vietnam in 2021, killing over 5,700 people and injuring nearly 8,000, according to the office.
