VIENTIANE, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone chaired a meeting to discuss with authorities in northern Laos to tackle the economic slump, which is fueled by inflation, unfavorable currency exchange rates, spiraling prices, and foreign debt.
The meeting, held on Sept. 22 in Oudomxay province, was attended by authorities from Oudomxay and other northern provinces, Pasaxon newspaper reported on Wednesday.
PM Sonexay instructed provincial authorities to do more to promote the production of goods for domestic use and export, in order to reduce the amount of goods imported.
The premier also advised provincial authorities to encourage greater production and consumption of Lao-made products, and to do more in the way of processing to add value to commodities.
