Vietnam's new car sales rebound 33 pct in February

HANOI, March 17 (Xinhua) -- New vehicle sales in Vietnam rose 33 percent to 23,040 units in February from the previous month when total vehicle sales posted a month-on-month plunge of 51 percent, Vietnam News Agency reported on Friday.

The sales of passenger cars rose 21 percent to 16,970 units from January, commercial vehicles sales jumped 81 percent to 5,760 units, and special purpose vehicles sales surged 188 percent to 300 units, the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA) said in a report.

VAMA member-manufacturers sold 40,354 units in the first two months of the year, down 25 percent from a year earlier.

Sales of locally produced vehicles from January to February dropped 38 percent to 20,518 units while sales of imported vehicles inched down 3 percent to 19,836 units.
