Cambodia, Thailand vow to further deepen bilateral ties, cooperation

PHNOM PENH, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and Thailand on Thursday vowed to further promote bilateral ties and cooperation for mutual benefits, the Cambodian foreign ministry said in a press statement.

The commitment was made during a meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and visiting Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on the sidelines of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Phnom Penh, the statement said.

Both leaders highly valued the existing good relations and cooperation in all fields between the two countries based on the spirit of good neighborliness, traditional friendship and mutual trust, it said.

"The two prime ministers expressed satisfaction with the significant progress of the comprehensive cooperation in recent years and agreed to further deepen and broaden the very close ties," the statement said.

During the meeting, Hun Sen renewed Cambodia's full support and wished Thailand a success in hosting the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting.

The two leaders noted with satisfaction the increasing bilateral trade exchange amid the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and discussed concrete measures to further promote the trade exchange to reach the target of 15 billion U.S. dollars in two years.

Both leaders also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in education, human resource development, defense and security, tourism, railway connection, clean energy, fight against transnational crimes such as illegal border-crossing and human trafficking, the statement added.
