Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — American Samoa placed 2nd in the 12 and Under Girls at the 2023 Pacific Oceania Junior Tennis Championships in Fiji, according to an American Samoa Tennis Association spokesperson.
Ula Amoa won her singles match 6-1, 6-3, 6-0. Joelei Ioane faced Fiji’s #1 seed and lost 4-6, 3-6.
In the doubles match, Ula Amoa and Aitulagi Godinet fought hard but lost to Fiji 4-6, 1-6 — this match put American Samoa in second place in their division in the 2023 Oceania tennis championships.
Matches continue today, with Aifili Tufa playing for 7th or 8th place in the Boys 14 and Under age group, which has 16 competitors.
A post on the American Samoa Tennis Association FaceBook page said, “We are so proud of the grit and sportsmanship displayed by our team and just know that they will come back again stronger,” according to the coach for Team American Samoa, Dr Francine Amoa.
