Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Le Taupou Manaia will be featured at the Utah Pacific Fashion show happening this coming Saturday at Utah State Fairpark. The event showcases the best of the Pacific & Oceania and is an avenue for designers and creators of Pacific-descent to connect their lifestyle products from the Pacific islands and Hawaii to the US market.
Tuifa’asisina Korina Seiuli Lee, founder and president of Le Taupou Manaia Dance Productions, in a recent phone interview, told Samoa News that some of her dance troupe’s older members will be showcasing her creations in the fashion show.
Tuifa’asisina creates traditional headdresses or ‘tuiga’, Samoan jewelry and accessories for her Le Taupou Manaia group, as well as sells her cultural ware and costumes at her local store, O Measina Samoa Creations.
She told Samoa News that about forty members of Le Taupou Manaia are in Utah for the Pacific Fashion show happening this weekend, where some of the leading Pasifika fashion designers will be showcasing their creations. Designers include Utah based Samoan designers Afa Ah Lou and Kini Zamora of Hawaii, Mena from Samoa, Tofu of New Zealand, as well as designers from Fiji and Tonga.
Tuifa’asisina added that The Le Taupou Manaia will also be performing at the Samoan Heritage Week in Honolulu, Hawaii, scheduled for August 5-11 at Keehi Lagoon Park. SHW is hosted by the American Samoa Government Office in Hawaii, and is one of Hawaii’s largest annual Pacific islander community cultural celebrations.
