Chairman of the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation Bertel Moore says talks are underway to have an animal pound operationalised in the Frome area of the parish.
This follows the death of two people this week, including a policeman, after separate incidents that involved collisions with stray cows.
Criticism has been levelled at the municipal corporation for its inaction in getting the pound up and running.
But Mr. Moore has pledged to deal with the issue of stray animals as a matter of urgency. He said the corporation has got its lawyers involved.
"Pan-Caribbean lawyer has brought us some documents pertaining to what we are going to do and our lawyers now have the papers that they can go through and we take a decision and the way forward."
He is hoping that the animal pound can be in place soon.
"Once the animals are out there, anywhere they are roaming the street, we can pound them, and that's what we are working towards, to rid the street of stray animals."
Deputy Superintendent Adrian Hamilton, in charge of operations in the Westmoreland police division, said the police will be engaging animal owners and pulling out all stops to ensure no other life is lost in this kind of incident.
