Garbage pile-up still affecting some communities

By Prince Moore

Despite efforts by the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) to clear the backlog of garbage, some communities continue to be affected by the pile up of waste.

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie said there has been a significant improvement in the collection of garbage.

But he admitted that some communities are still struggling with a backlog of garbage.

"Some people will say, well, the community 'dutty', and there's no denying that, that there are still areas that we need to reach," he said.

Still, he argued that the number of complaints have diminished compared to two years ago, reflecting an improvement in collection.

"People now acknowledge the work, the efforts," he asserted.

Mr. McKenzie was addressing a post NSWMA board retreat media briefing on Wednesday.
