The Sugar Company of Jamaica Holdings has remained silent on the circumstances leading to the sale of lands occupied by the McCook Primary & Infant School in St. Catherine.
The school's playing field has been earmarked for development after it was sold by the SCJ.
Since Radio Jamaica News aired the story about the sale aired three weeks ago, a group of citizens has come together to join the fight for the property to be returned to the school.
As work progresses on a major housing development next to the school, however, residents and past students of the institution are growing anxious.
They have formed the McCook Action Committee to help get the land back for the school.
The Anglican Church, which owns the land, has retained lawyers to challenge the SCJ sale.
Kestonard Gordon, Vice Chairman of the St. Catherine Parish Development Committee, is not happy with the pace of the legal fight.
