A customs officer was struck on her breasts by a cell phone that was flung at her by a correctional officer.
The accused man, Collin McKenzie, who is a foreigner, allegedly threw his cell phone at the customs officer after he was barred from boarding his flight to return home to the United States of America.
The incident allegedly took place at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.
McKenzie has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The allegations are that on April 6, McKenzie was booked for a JetBlue flight to return to the USA. It is alleged that he arrived at the airport late and missed his boarding time, and was barred from checking in to the flight. He started behaving boisterously and was taken from the boarding line by the complainant.
McKenzie, it is alleged, used his phone to hit the complainant in her chest regions.
When he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday, McKenzie, through his attorney-at-law Orville Morgan, pleaded guilty to the charges. His lawyer also expressed a desire to have the matter disposed of expeditiously.
However, at the time when the matter was being mentioned before Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque, the complainant was not present in court. The matter was briefly adjourned, but not before Morgan argued that her absence was an indication that she is not interested in case. He also said that she has not presented a medical certificate to support her claim that she was injured.
The complainant arrived some time after and told the judge that she has been feeling discomfort in the area where she received the injuries. She requested to be paid $250,000 as compensation. McKenzie's lawyer had already left, and Judge Cole-Montaque decided to adjourn the matter until October 12.
