Trinidad and Tobago health authorities say the wearing of masks at all public and private hospitals and medical clinics will no longer be mandatory, effective today.
The Ministry of Health said on May 15, the World Health Organization announced the end of the global pandemic that killed and infected millions of people, declaring it an established and ongoing health issue, which no longer constitutes a public health emergency of international concern.
But the ministry said despite the change in policy, it was reminding the public, particularly the vulnerable, to continue to maintain the principles and practices of good hygiene such as hand washing and social distancing when ill.
Total deaths from the virus since the first case was detected in March 2020 stands at 4,390.
