Seated on his white throne in-between his two sons, reggae icon Freddie McGregor sang his heart out for the first time on Jamaican soil since suffering a stroke in November 2022.
The emotional Big Ship captain expressed not only gratitude to God, but also to his fans for their “prayers and well wishes.”
"When I got sick last year and Mr Bogdanovich asked me if I could do Sumfest, I said I would try but through the spirit of Christ, I'm here tonight, so God is great," he said.
McGregor performed hits such as Push Comes to Shove and Just Don’t Wanna Be Lonely with the help of his children dancehall entertainers Chino and Stephen ‘Di Genius’ and his daughter Yashemabeth.
The STAR later caught up with the McGregor brothers who explained that they set out on a mission and planned on seeing it through to the end.
“At the end of the day we are family and we have each other’s back through the difficult times. So we just do what we need to do,” Chino said.
The brothers also gave an update on their father’s recovery.
“It has been incredible, especially coming off the situation. He is miles ahead of what you’d expect, and he’s still sharp vocally. So we are blessed to be in this position,” Stephen said.
At the end of his performance, Freddie was presented with the Red Stripe Living Legend Award by Red Stripe Brand Manager which was met with rousing applause from the audience.
