Sentencing hearing underway for 15 convicted in One Don Gang trial

By Racquel Porter

The sentencing hearing for the leader of the One Don Gang Andre Blackman Bryan and his 14 co-accused is underway in the Home Circuit Court.

The trial, which started with 33 defendants being hauled before the court on a 25-count indictment, was whittled down to 15 guilty verdicts and 12 acquittals.

One defendant was murdered while on bail and five others were freed after the judge upheld no case submissions by their attorneys.

Attorney representing Mr. Bryan, Lloyd McFarlane, told the court that his client is seeking to represent himself.

Chief Justice Bryan Sykes, while explaining the sentencing procedure, advised Mr. Bryan to allow his attorney to represent him.

But Mr. Bryan, clad in a black shirt and khaki pants, insisted that he will be representing himself.

He also stated that he does not care about the sentence he is to receive.
