The People's National Party (PNP) says it has not yet publicly declared the name of its standard bearer for Portland Eastern to represent the party in the next general election.
Councillor-Caretaker for the Fellowship division, Colin Bell, claims that PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell has confirmed him to represent the party.
At the same time, former president of the Jamaica Teachers' Association, Owen Spied, launched a campaign on social media in his bid to represent the constituency on the PNP's ticket.
PNP Chairman Dr. Angela Brown Burke says the party is using the same selection exercise for every constituency, adding that it will make an announcement soon.
"We did declare last week at our NEC a number of individuals. The list is not complete. But there are persons who are at different stages. And I would expect, certainly by the time we end August, to have at least three-quarters of our candidates actually declared," she said, noting that all candidates are provisional in the first instance.
Dr. Brown Burke was speaking on the Morning Agenda on Power 106 FM.
