Manager accused of overpaying herself by millions

A manager of an entertainment company is currently the subject of criminal proceedings before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, answering to larceny charges.

Investigators shared with the court on Monday that the accused, Nashera James, in her capacity at the company, had the authority to make payments to the staff. It is alleged that James overpaid herself in the sum of $3 million. She was subsequently charged on an indictment for four counts of access with intent to commit an offence and four counts of larceny as a servant. James, the court heard, had a previous conviction in 2003 and has no intention to flee the island.

"There are three million reasons someone might say," Senior Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque noted, before imposing bail conditions ordering James to surrender her travel documents and to report to the police one weekly. A stop order was also put in place.

The matter was adjourned until November 27 to facilitate file completion.
