A parish court judge yesterday discontinued a matter of larceny against six defendants, after it was revealed that the case is yet to be assigned to a forensic specialist for analysis after nearly a year.
Parish Judge Leighton Morris discharged Christopher Thompson, Delroy Williams, Rhule Ridge, Adrian Mendez, Calvin Joseph and Perry-Lee Elliot for want of prosecution. The men were charged on an indictment for simple larceny. It is alleged that they stole more than $200,000 worth of stout beverage from the complainant's storeroom at which they were employed.
Prosecutors informed the judge in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court that the matter, which has been before the court since last September, will soon meet the one-year mark, but it had not been assigned to a specialist at the police's Communication Forensic and Cybercrime Division.
"There are challenges that hinders the prosecution's case. You are free to go," the presiding judge told the men.
