The Jamaica Teachers' Association has expressed alarm at acts of violence against children.
JTA President Leighton Johnson visited Discovery Bay Primary & Infant school on Wednesday to show solidarity with the teachers and students.
He said the nation is failing to take care of its children.
"We have allowed for our children to be suffering at the hands of adults and individuals who simply do not know how to take care of them. It is a difficult period, it's a difficult moment, it is a difficult concept to understand, and we would want our nation to stand together to ensure that acts like these that constantly are meted out to our children should stop. We cannot continue as a nation to have our children suffering at the hands of adults who should be taking care of our children," he pleaded.
Mr. Johnson has called for the full weight of the law be brought to bear on the perpetrator.
The 27-year-old suspect in the rape and murder of young Talia remains in critical condition in hospital after trying to kill himself.
