Member of Parliament for St. Catherine Eastern Denise Daley says there is a blanket of fear and shock over the Waterloo community as a result of a triple killing on Tuesday morning.
The bodies of three members of a family were found with what appeared to be bullet wounds inside their house.
They are 43-year-old Omar Wellington, his 35-year-old wife Sharon Francis-Wellington, who was pregnant, and their 16-year-old son Orlando Wellington, who was a student at Innswood High School.
MP Denise Daley on Tuesday afternoon bemoaned the killing of the family and called for a national focus on reducing crime and violence, similar to what went into dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We will have to give double the amount of attention to crime and violence in this country. I never know that we would have reached this stage in this country. I do not know what to do and to say. All I do know is that all entities and especially the ones that deal with mental, social and even economic cases, must come in now and sit at one table, not fragmented, to look at all...the root causes that is (sic) causing so much violence in this country," she urged.
Ms. Daley also promised that the security forces will maintain a presence in the community to help residents feel safe.
