Sokoto Guber Tribunal Set to Deliver Judgement, Only Govt-owned Media Houses Allowed Access into Courtroom

The Sokoto state governorship election petition tribunal is set to deliver judgement in the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidates, Mallam Saidu Umar, challenging the outcome of  the March, 18, 2023 governorship election in Sokoto state. 

Journalists who arrived the court premises as early as 7:00am, passed through strict security checks as the court premises was manned by heavily armed security personnel, making access to the courtroom a very difficult task.

Journalists not working for government-owned media were not allowed into the chamber of the Sokoto State High Court where the judgment is expected to be delivered .

Head of the Directorate of State Services, while addressing journalists at the court premises, said only journalists working for the state and that of the Nigeria Television Authority( NTA) would be allowed into the courtroom where the judgment is expected to be delivered.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria was later allowed to join  other journalists allowed access to the courtroom
