Police arrest three for car theft in Sokoto, recover four vehicles

The combined team of detectives from the zonal intelligence department (ZID) Zone 10 Sokoto has arrested a gang of three suspects specialising in car theft between Sokoto and Kebbi States.

A statement signed by the spokesman for the Sokoto State command, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, on behalf of the AIG Abubakar Lawal Daura, who is in charge of the zone, said the police consolidated the support of the citizens in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states respectively busted criminal gangs terrorising Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states

“The gang specialised in car theft of various models within the above three states and dispose them within and outside our neighbouring countries.

“Credible intelligence led Crack Team within the zonal command to the criminal hideout in an uncompleted building in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State where one Muttaka Muhammad ‘m’ 29 years of Zauro town was arrested.

“During interrogation and discreet investigation, a total number of four vehicles were recovered in Kebbi and Sokoto States, respectively, which led to the arrest of two other members of the gang in Kebbi and Sokoto, namely 1-Kasimu Muhammad ‘m’ 33 years of Dukki area Bunza LGA and Haliru Musa ‘m’ 35years years of Baiti Area both of Kebbi State.”

Vehicles recovered during the operation include a TOYOTA Corolla LE, Ash in colour with Chassis No. 211BR32E74124, a Toyota Corolla LE, Ash in Colour with Chassis No. WVBR82F94Z649604.

Others include a Toyota Corolla Fish Eye, blue in colour, with Chassis No.JT15EEB103103294 and a Toyota Corolla Fish Eye, blue in colour, with Chassis No. JT152EEB103134442.

The statement, however, said that the general public is therefore advised to inform relatives or friends who lost their vehicles to come up with proof of ownership for confirmation and claim them at the Zone 10 AIG Office.

The AIG called on members of the public to be vigilant and security-conscious in their domains and to continue to cooperate with the police and other security agencies, as security is everybody’s business.
