The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has bemoaned the neglect suffered by Nigerians living in border communities.

This is as he vowed that he would do all within his power to ensure they are provided with needed basic amenities.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry’s Director of Press, Afonja Ajibola, said Tunji-Ojo stated this when he received the Chief Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission, Abimbola Yusuf.

It partly read, “He added that Nigerians in border communities are neglected. He said he wants to make sure they feel they are part of Nigeria by providing them with necessary Infrastructures and other essential services to improve their well-being. ”

The minister also said he would like to be remembered for helping the president, Bola Tinubu, secure the nation’s borders.

“I don’t want to be remembered as the Minister that solved the passport problem, but as Minister that helped the President to secure borders in Nigeria, that is legacy”, the statement added.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated that he does not want to disappoint Nigerians and the President who appointed him as the Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Earlier, the Chief Commissioner said his visit was to seek collaboration with the Ministry to eliminate passport queues in Nigeria.

He said, “It is in this capacity that the Commission wishes to partner and collaborate with you in your efforts and commitment to steer the Ministry to greatness under your watch. It is hoped that the relationship between your organisation and the commission will be fruitful for the benefit of all Nigerians.”
