NIPOST clamps down on illegal logistics operators in Abuja

The Nigerian Postal Service has clamped down on illegal logistics operators in the Federal Capital Territory to sanitise the sector.

In a clampdown exercise monitored by DAILY POST on Thursday, the Enforcement Team of the Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department, NIPOST, confiscated 20 motorbikes belonging to illegal operators.

Some illegal operators affected are Henich, Mac-Nemos, DownTown Grill, Ruthy’s Logistics and others in Abuja.

In a statement, Shonde ‘Dotun, the General Manager of CLRD, said the exercise is necessary to reduce the number of unlicensed courier operators and curb insecurity.

He says a similar clampdown has been carried out across states, including Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Katsina, Ogun, Oyo, Rivers and Kwara states.

He explained that acquiring an operational license has been made flexible and available across NIPOST offices nationwide.

“The operation has come to stay because Nigeria’s postal, Express, Courier and Logistics Industry has been proliferated and infiltrated with many unlicensed courier operators with reckless abandonment of ethical standards of professional conduct.

“There are issues of prohibited items like small arms and ammunition, guns, gold, monies “, obscene items, etc.

“It is a menace to the postal industry and portrays a negative image to the Nigerian society at large”, he said.
