Abia: Tribunal throws out LP’s petition, upholds Iheonunekwu’s victory in Isiala Ngwa North

Abia State election petition tribunal sitting in Umuahia has dismissed the petition brought by the candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr Innocent Uruakpa challenging the victory of Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the March 18 House of Assembly election.

Iheonunekwu is representing Isiala Ngwa North constituency.

The tribunal, while upholding the victory of Mr Iheonunekwu, dismissed the prayers sought by Mr Innocent Uruakpa, the LP candidate, for lack of merit.

The three-man tribunal led by Hon Justice Abubakar Idris Kutigi, while delivering its judgement, said that the petitioner could not prove his allegations that the election of Iheonunekwu was marred by irregularities.

It therefore upheld Mr Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu ‘s victory.

In his reaction, Iheonunekwu described the ruling as sound and appreciated his constituents and other supporters for their belief in him throughout the litigation period.
