BBB, Water Natuurlijk and PvdD make gains on the waterboards

Results for the water board elections, which also took place on Wednesday, have been slow to come in as the high turnout delayed counting in some areas.

Nevertheless, as in the provincial vote, the pro-farmer BoerBurgerBeweging has made large gains, according to Unie van Waterschappen, the association covering the 21 Dutch water authorities.

Water Natuurlijk – an alliance between D66, GroenLinks and Volt – has also done well, UvW said, and could be the largest grouping in four water boards. The PvdA also also made gains but 50plus, CDA and VVD have all lost seats.

On the Amstel, Gooi en Vecht waterboard, which covers most of Amsterdam, the PvdA is set to be the largest party, with six seats on the 30-strong board. The pro-animal PvdD will win four, as will the VVD while Water Natuurlijk will have 5. BBB is likely to win three seats.

In Delfland, which covers The Hague, BBB are the big winners, with Water Natuurlijk and the VVD in second and third place, while in Rotterdam, where Hollandse Delta is in charge, local party Waterschapspartij Hollandse Delta is the big winner, followed by BBB.

On De Dommel water board, which covers Eindhoven and Tilburg, Water Natuurlijk is the big winner with seven seats, followed by the VVD and BBB, both of which won four.

In Zuiderzeeland, which covers Almere and Lelystad, local grouping Water, Wonen en Natuur are set to share first place with the BBB. Utrecht has yet to declare.

As yet there is no turnout figure either, but the range in the 12 water authorities to declare their results on Thursday is between 47% and 59%, the UvW said.
