Vietnam's wood export up 9 pct in 11 months

HANOI, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam exported nearly 14.6 billion U.S. dollars worth of wood and wood products in the first 11 months of this year, up 9 percent year on year, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Monday.

In November alone, the country raked in about 1.1 billion dollars from exporting wood and wood products, posting a 14.6-percent year-on-year decrease.

Vietnam set the target to export 16.5 billion dollars worth of wood and wood products in 2022. The high season for these products often falls in year-end months thanks to increasing demand for furniture in major export markets. However, the export prospect is a bit gloomy this year, according to local media.

In 2021, Vietnam reaped over 14.8 billion dollars from exporting wood and wood products, which increased 19.7 percent year on year and accounted for 4.4 percent of the country's total export revenue, with China, Japan and the United States among the major markets.

Between January and November this year, Vietnam also spent more than 2.8 billion dollars importing wood and wood products, up 4.4 percent year on year.
