SIEM REAP, Cambodia, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's Puong Jean-luc and Frenchwoman Messina Veronique won the sixth Ultra Trail of Angkor 100-km challenge, which was held at the famed Angkor archaeological park here on Saturday.

This event was organized by the Sports Development and Performance Organization (SDPO) in partnership with the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC).

Some 1,000 runners from 43 countries and regions took part in the event, which was classified into various types of races: the 100-km Angkor Ultra Trail, 64-km Bayon Trail, 42-km Marathon Trail, 32-km Jungle Trail, 16-km Temple Run, 8-km Angkor Elephant Trail, and 5-km Humanitarian Walk around Bayon Temple.

"This long-distance running event was one of the great achievements that showcased Cambodia's ability to prepare for the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which will be held from May 5, 2023 in Phnom Penh," said NOCC President and Tourism Minister Thong Khon.

Located in northwest Cambodia's Siem Reap province, the Angkor archeological park, inscribed on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1992, is the kingdom's most popular tourist destination.
