Myanmar athletes to train in China for SEA Games

YANGON, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar will send 86 athletes to China this month to train for the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, officials said.

"By sending athletes to China, we achieved good results in the previous SEA Games. Our nation will do better if we can send more athletes to China for training," Htay Aung, director of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, told Xinhua on Tuesday.

A total of 101 athletes and coaches in four sports, namely 38 in volleyball, 25 in track and field, 21 in lethwei (Myanmar boxing), and 17 in Wushu, are set to travel to China in three batches in November and will train for about three months, he said.

The first batch of 38 athletes and coaches in volleyball set off on November 14. The second and third batches of other sports are scheduled to leave on November 16 and 21, respectively.

"By undergoing training, our athletes will improve their technical skills and expertise," he said.

The 32nd SEA Games is scheduled to be held in Cambodia in May 2023.
