Dengue fever cases continue to rise in Laos

VIENTIANE, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Dengue cases in Laos have risen to 548 since January this year, according to data released by the Lao Ministry of Health on Thursday.

The Southeast Asian country reported four new cases of dengue fever on Thursday, bringing the total number of infections to 548.

The highest number of dengue patients was reported in the Lao capital Vientiane at 92, with 91 cases in Oudomxay, and 54 cases in Luang Namtha province.

The health ministry urged authorities and people countrywide to remain vigilant and help control the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

People are asked to clear potential mosquito breeding sites around their homes and workplaces to curb the spread of dengue fever, according to the report.
