Chinese Bridge contest for college students held in Vietnamese capital

HANOI, May 20 (Xinhua) -- The final round of the northern and central section of the 22nd Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students concluded in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi on Saturday.

The competitions of the section were held by Hanoi University and co-organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under China's Ministry of Education and the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam.

The final round was divided into four parts, including Chinese knowledge quiz, themed speech, talent show and impromptu speech, held offline at the meeting hall of Hanoi University.

Duong Dinh Thong from the Military Science Academy of Vietnam won in the final round, with 25 students from 23 universities contesting.

Do Ai Lam from Vietnam National University performed Tai Chi, hailed by the audience.

"It's my honor to join the contest today, I have learnt Chinese for three years. I want to study in China after graduation, and become a good interpreter in the future to promote the development of Vietnam-China friendship," she told Xinhua.

Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong, vice president of Hanoi University, said the progress of world civilization depends on communication between countries, and language is one of the most important ways to communicate with each other.

Vietnam and China are friendly neighboring countries, share similar culture and have profound friendship, she said, adding that the two countries should further promote such friendship.

Peng Shituan, cultural counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, said that China and Vietnam share the same social system and many common values, and have witnessed rapid development in cooperation in trade, education, culture, tourism and other areas.

In the process, Chinese language has played an important role in advancing people-to-people exchanges, Peng said.
