Chengdu Universiade | China's Guo into women's singles tennis quarters

CHENGDU, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese tennis player Guo Hanyu emerged victorious to secure her spot in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, while Zheng Wushuang retired due to injury in the women's singles tennis event of the Chengdu Universiade.

In the third round against Thailand's Lanlana Tararudee, Guo started strong and claimed the first set with ease.

However, the momentum was shifted in the second set as Guo struggled to maintain form. It was in the deciding set that Guo made a remarkable comeback, winning four consecutive games to wrap up the match 6-2, 0-6, 6-3.

"Today I made a lot of unforced errors. Fortunately, I managed to stabilize my mentality in the third set," said Guo.

In another women's singles match, Zheng faced off against top seed Alice Robbe from France.

After they split the first two sets, Zheng had to quit due to injury during the decisive third set.
