Cambodian PM meets 1,058 top-scored high school graduates

PHNOM PENH, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Thursday met here with 1,058 students who passed the 2022 high school exit exam with Grade A, awarding each of them an iPad and 500 U.S. dollars.

Speaking at the event, Hun Sen said the top-scored graduates are the pride of their families, encouraging them to pursue their study at university levels, as they will become potential human resources for national development.

The prime minister said peace is the most important thing that has enabled them to get education smoothly and called on people to join him in continuing to protect the country's hard-earned peace.

"Peace must not be overlooked, as it is a prerequisite for all success," he said. "Education, sports, arts...cannot live in war, but in peace."

Cambodia held the annual high school graduation exam in December last year with a total of 125,735 exam-takers. As a result, 90,950 applicants, or 72.33 percent, of them passed the test with 1,058 gaining Grade A.

The Southeast Asian nation has started to enhance high school quality since 2014 through cleaning up cheating and bribery during the grade 12 national exam.
