Police are appealing for witnesses after a search and rescue helicopter was targeted by a yob with a laser pen.

The ‘reckless’ incident took place over Amisfield, near Dumfries, at around 11.15pm on July 17, 2021, as the aircraft.

Officers say the pilot was thankfully unaffected by the laser pointer and continued on with the flight as planned.

The culprit is believed to have been in the area near Amisfield Primary School

But they are now keen to find the culprit who is believed to have been in the area around Amisfield Primary School at the time.

A statement from Police Scotland said: “We are looking for assistance from members of the public who may have witnessed a reckless conduct incident which occurred about 2315 hours on 17th July 2021 possibly near to Amisfield Primary School.

“Circumstances are that a laser pen was shone at a Search and Rescue helicopter which was flying over Amisfield at the time.

“Fortunately on this occasion the pilot of the aircraft was not affected by this reckless act.

“Police request that anyone who may have information or who may have been in the area at the time please call 101 quoting crime reference number PDG0152620721 and ask to speak to PC Lyons.”
