An investigation has been launched in a rural Lancashire village after a car was destroyed in a fire early this morning (November 15).

Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service, along with Lancashire Constabulary, attended the scene of a fire on Higher House Lane, Heapey, at around 3.42am.

The fire service worked to extinguish the fire and an investigation with the police is now underway.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service said: "One fire engine was called to a fire involving a car on Higher House Lane, Heapey. Firefighters used one breathing apparatus and one hose reel to extinguish the fire which is now subject to a police and fire investigation.

"No injuries were reported."
