Ben White has sent an upbeat message to Arsenal fans after completing his first training session with the club.

The Gunners' new £50 million man arrived from Brighton on Friday and was thrown straight into training on Saturday.

It's less than two weeks until Arsenal's Premier League campaign kicks off when they travel to Brentford on Friday, August 13.

White is Mikel Arteta's third summer signing with Benfica's Nuno Tavares and Anderlecht's Albert Sambi Lokonga already arriving at the Emirates.

After his first training session with Arsenal, White shared an image of himself all-smiles sporting the Gunners' training kit on his social media channels.

The 23-year-old wrote: "First session banked!! What an incredible couple of days.

"Overwhelmed by all the messages. Thank you @arsenal."

White's new London fan following were quick to comment well-wishing messages on the post.

The defender's move to Arsenal last week became the fifth-highest price ever paid for an English footballer.

The £50 million transfer fee coughed up by Arsenal is one million more than the sums paid for Kyle Walker in 2017 and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in 2019 by Manchester City and Manchester United respectively.

The English record is currently held by Harry Maguire for his £80 million switch from Leicester City to United in 2019.

White has taken the number four shirt at Arsenal from William Salaba, who has joined Marseille on a season-long loan.

The prestigious jersey has previously been worn by Patrick Viera, Per Mertesacker and Cesc Fabregas.

The young talent won Brighton's Player of the Season award for his performances last year before making the move to Arsenal.

White was the centre of transfer controversy last summer too as Leeds United saw three transfer bids rejected by Graham Potter's Brighton.

He had spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Elland Road, helping the Whites back into the Premier League and being named in the PFA Team of the Year in the process.

However, Brighton couldn't keep hold of their star man this summer after the Gunners came knocking.

Speaking about the arrival of White, Gunners technical director Edu told the club's website: "Ben has been a key target this summer. He has so many qualities which make us so excited he’s joining us.

"Ben’s a young English player with a great future. He’s very strong defensively, good on the ball with a great passing range."

Manager Mikel Arteta added: "Ben was a top target for us and it’s great that we’ve completed his signing.

"Ben has been educated with two very good clubs, Brighton and Leeds, in recent seasons.

"He has benefitted well from two very good coaching set-ups and has shown with both Brighton and on loan with Leeds what a strong talent he is."

Arteta will hope that the new arrival will bolster his squad as they aim to finish in the top six for the first time since 2018.

Arsenal placed a lowly eighth in the Premier League last year after an inconsistent start to life under the Spaniard.
