A Lanarkshire couple had a wedding day al-pacad with memories at the weekend with two very special guests in attendance.

Animal lovers Maxine and Daniel Gourlay, of Hamilton, were forced to move their wedding date twice during lockdown, but it was third time lucky on Sunday as the event went ahead as planned.

However, keen to make their day at Crossbasket Castle extra special, the couple arranged for two alpacas - Chance and Eddie - to surprise their guests.

Maxine and Daniel, 28, say they are huge animal lovers and have both helped out with animal charities over the years up until their daughter Penelope was born recently.

Maxine, a civil servant, told Lanarkshire Live: “This was our third attempt at holding our wedding because of the various lockdown restrictions in place.

"But, keeping our numbers relatively low, we were delighted to go ahead with it on Sunday.

“We have three cats and a dog at home and I just loved the idea of having the alpacas there at the wedding.

"I had seen them at a wedding fair and other people having them, it was just kind of a quirky idea and I knew everyone would love it.

“It was fantastic and such a surprise for our guests. They were kept outside the courtyard of the venue and people were able to get pictures with them and feed them.

"They just loved it.

“The team at Crossbasket Castle were amazing too and were delighted to help us with our unusual request.”
